The Review:

A.D.A.M. costs $695 - this is still pricey but lemme tell'ya...it is worth every single penny. Too bad mosts high schools won't be able to afford it. For that price, AIA provides incredible access to 20,000 anatomical structures in multiple 3D views - all info is based on the "Visible Human Project", sponsored by the American Library of Medicine - this is not Mickey Mouse stuff - a lot of cadavers went through a lot of photographs and NMR to get the pictures you'll see.

This software is so good it is used heavily in medical schools and by healthcare providers. Along with unparalleled imagery of anatomy, you also get medical illustrations and a built-in curriculum integration and authoring tool. A.D.A.M. software is constantly developing new 3D library supplements to go with AIA as well - so if you need extremely specific imagery, it's definitely available.

It is literally shocking how good and comprehensive this software is - the first time you look at the rotating transparent pictures of the heart showing the valves... you'll be in love! The anatomy feature is simply to die for... with a simple slider tool, you dive deeper and deeper into the body - incredible! It is equally amazing that this software includes just about every anatomical detail there is but is incredibly easy to use.

There's no need to have students searching endlessly for what you wan them to see... just make a slide show! Interactive anatomy can easily create slide shows for lectures - cool! Oh yeah, there are pre-made slide shows downloadable from the 'net as well.

More bad news - this review is based on a older version that worked on the Mac - since then Mac compatibility has been dropped. Why? Very unfortunate.

OK, now the price...AIA is $695 (U.S.) for a single user version. The 3D library is also included with your purchase, which includes the eye and a few other gory disembodied parts!

If you want a lab pack or site licensing, call 1-800-784-9001 and see what arrangements can be made. Have fun gawking at those brains!

Conclusion:

If you teach biology, you NEED this program - too bad it is so expensive.

If you use ScienceMan, consider making a donation!
